Chikkamaglur: A search is underway for the first standard school girl who was swept away by floodwaters on her way back from school on the outskirts of Thogarihankal Gram Panchayat in Chikkamagalur district last week.
She was accompanied by her older brother and friends.

Kodagu District has experienced repeated minor tremors in the recent past, and people are also afraid of large landslides.
In the northern region of Karnataka, the rivers Veda Ganga, Doodh Ganga, Krishna, Malaprabha in Belagavi and the surrounding region have seen an increase in water levels. Heavy rains and rushing water have brought waterfalls to life at Jog, Maragodu, Satoddi, Unchalli, Shivaganaga, Nagaramudi and Vibhooti.
Three workers from Kerala died as a result of the landslide in Mukkuda near Panjikallu village in Bantwal Taluk in Dakshina Kannada district.The deceased are identified as Biju (45) from Palakkad, Santhosh (46) from Alappuzha, Babu (46) from Kottayam. Johnny (44) from Kannur was rescued.
Laborers working on the rubber plantations were buried under a pile of mud when a mound on top of their shed where they lived collapsed. Rain continued to hit Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, Kodagu, Belagavi, Hubballi, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru and other districts in the state.
