One of the more electrifying announcements to emerge from Prime Video’s India slate launch for 2026 is ‘System’ a courtroom drama that brings together two of Indian cinema’s most compelling actresses in Sonakshi Sinha and Jyotika, directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari. The project was unveiled by Baweja Studios at the event and immediately drew attention for the sheer firepower it assembles on both sides of the camera.
The two leads play characters from starkly contrasting worlds. Sonakshi Sinha plays Neha Rajvansh, a privileged and accomplished public prosecutor who is confident in her position within the judicial hierarchy. Jyotika portrays Sarika Rawat, a courtroom stenographer who occupies a far more modest station in life watching the legal system operate from its edges rather than its centre of power. When the lives of these two women intersect within the judicial system, the encounter triggers a chain of events that upends both their personal and professional realities.
At its core, System is designed to be more than a legal procedural. The film raises hard questions about the nature of justice whether it is truly blind and impartial, or whether it bends, consciously or otherwise, under the weight of power, privilege, and institutional hierarchy. The premise carries unmistakable social resonance: in a courtroom where perception shapes outcomes as much as evidence, what does it mean to stand one’s ground when the system is not designed to favour you?
Jyotika, who was present at the Prime Video event, spoke about her excitement for the project. This will be her next on-screen outing following the acclaimed OTT drama Dabba Cartel, and the character of Sarika navigating the labyrinthine corridors of the justice system from a position of relative powerlessness promises to be a role that plays to her considerable dramatic range. Veteran filmmaker and actor Ashutosh Gowariker also features in the cast alongside the two leads, adding further weight to the ensemble.
Behind the camera, the project carries significant creative pedigree. Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, whose directorial work across films like Nil Battey Sannata, Bareilly Ki Barfi, and the series Faadu has established her as one of Hindi cinema’s most thoughtful storytellers, helms System. The story and screenplay are written by Harman Baweja and Arun Sukumar, with additional screenplay contributions by Tiwari herself and Tasneem Lokhandwala. Dialogues are penned by Akshat Ghildial, who co-wrote Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan and is known for his sharp, layered writing. The project is produced by Pammi Baweja, Harman Baweja, and Smitha Baliga under the Baweja Studios banner.
The announcement arrives at a moment when courtroom dramas are enjoying a particularly strong run across Indian streaming platforms, with audiences demonstrating a growing appetite for content that interrogates institutions and the people who navigate them. System, with its female-led cast, a director known for bringing emotional nuance to social narratives, and a premise that sits at the intersection of class, gender, and justice is well positioned to resonate in that space.
A release date has not yet been confirmed. Given its Prime Video home, a global streaming debut is anticipated later in 2026.
