CM Stalin Lays Foundation Stone for Haj House in Chennai
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin on Monday laid the foundation stone for the construction of a Haj House in Chennai, marking a significant step towards improving facilities for Muslim pilgrims from the state. The project aims to provide essential accommodation and support services for Haj pilgrims before their departure to Saudi Arabia.
The Haj House project is being developed at an estimated cost of ₹39.20 crore and is expected to be completed by March 2026, according to official sources. Once completed, the facility will serve as a central hub for training, documentation, health check-ups, and accommodation for pilgrims undertaking the sacred Haj journey.
Enhancing Facilities for Pilgrims
The proposed Haj House is designed to streamline the pilgrimage process by offering modern infrastructure and organized services under one roof. Officials stated that the facility would significantly reduce logistical challenges faced by pilgrims, especially elderly participants and first-time travellers.
The initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to inclusive development and ensuring that religious communities receive necessary institutional support.
Government’s Focus on Inclusive Welfare
Speaking at the event, leaders highlighted that the project aligns with the DMK government’s broader approach of strengthening welfare infrastructure for all sections of society. The Haj House is expected to play a key role in assisting thousands of pilgrims from Tamil Nadu every year.
The foundation-laying ceremony was attended by ministers, senior officials, and representatives from the Muslim community, who welcomed the move and described it as a long-standing requirement.
Project Timeline and Expectations
Construction work for the Haj House will commence shortly, with authorities assuring that the project will be executed within the stipulated timeframe. Upon completion, the facility is expected to enhance coordination between pilgrims and government agencies, ensuring a smoother and more dignified pilgrimage experience.
The Haj House project stands as another addition to Tamil Nadu’s expanding public infrastructure initiatives under Chief Minister M. K. Stalin’s administration.
