In a major political shake-up within Tamil Nadu’s main opposition party, AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) has expelled senior leader K.A. Sengottaiyan from the party. The announcement was made officially by EPS, marking a significant turning point in the internal dynamics of the AIADMK.
Sengottaiyan, one of the party’s long-serving and influential figures, has been part of the AIADMK since the days of M.G. Ramachandran and Jayalalithaa. His expulsion has sent ripples through the political landscape, especially among the party’s veteran cadres who viewed him as a bridge between generations of leadership.
According to reports, the decision follows a series of internal disagreements and growing tension between Sengottaiyan and the party’s high command. His recent association with expelled leaders and statements hinting at a possible political realignment are said to have triggered his removal.
In the official statement, Edappadi Palaniswami asserted that the action was taken to preserve party unity and discipline, emphasizing that “no individual is above the organization.”
This expulsion comes amid a turbulent phase for the AIADMK, which has been witnessing internal friction following its electoral setbacks. Political observers see this as EPS’s move to reaffirm control over the party and send a strong message to dissenters.
With Sengottaiyan’s exit, the stage is now set for potential political realignments, as speculations rise about his next move — whether he will remain independent, join hands with other factions, or explore a new political path.
