The Madras High Court has dismissed a petition filed by a BJP councillor seeking to transfer the investigation of the Karur tragedy case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The case relates to the tragic incident in Karur, where 41 people lost their lives during a public gathering. The petitioner had argued that a CBI investigation was necessary to ensure transparency and impartiality. However, the court found no substantial grounds to justify the transfer and upheld that the ongoing state police probe was sufficient.
In its order, the High Court stated that the state authorities are already taking appropriate measures and that there was no need for intervention by a central agency. The plea was therefore rejected, and the petition officially dismissed.
This ruling marks a crucial development in one of the most discussed cases in Tamil Nadu in recent times, as the investigation continues under the supervision of the state police.
