CM Pinarayi Vijayan Releases LDF Manifesto for Kerala Elections 2026

The ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) has unveiled its manifesto for the 2026 Kerala elections, presenting a wide-ranging roadmap focused on welfare expansion, job creation, and long-term economic development. The document, released by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, outlines key promises aimed at strengthening social security, boosting employment, and accelerating inclusive growth across the state.

One of the biggest announcements in the manifesto is the proposal to increase welfare pensions to ₹3,000 per month, a significant hike aimed at strengthening social security for the elderly and vulnerable sections. The LDF said the move is part of its broader commitment to improving “welfare and support systems at the local level” while ensuring better care for senior citizens and bedridden patients.

The manifesto places a strong emphasis on eliminating absolute poverty across Kerala. The alliance has proposed identifying nearly five lakh of the poorest families and providing targeted assistance to help them rise above poverty. The document highlights that the government has already claimed to have eradicated extreme poverty and now aims to make the state completely poverty-free through focused interventions and expanded welfare measures.

Employment generation and youth empowerment form a central pillar of the manifesto, with multiple initiatives aimed at improving employability and expanding job opportunities. The LDF has proposed assured campus placements and the expansion of skill development programmes to better prepare students for the job market. A key highlight is the ‘Back to Campus’ programme, which seeks to strengthen employability through institution-linked training, ensuring that students receive industry-relevant skills before entering the workforce.

Women’s empowerment is a major focus area in the LDF’s vision, with a target to increase women’s workforce participation to 50 per cent. The manifesto proposes institutional support systems to enable greater inclusion of women in the labour force, along with measures to improve access to employment opportunities and skill development.

The manifesto also outlines plans to promote youth entrepreneurship through interest-free loans, incubation support, and policy measures designed to encourage start-ups.

The manifesto further presents a broader welfare and development agenda, including a comprehensive care model for the elderly and bedridden, expansion of social security schemes, and continued focus on inclusive growth across sectors.

With polling scheduled for April 9, 2026, and counting set for May 4, 2026, the LDF manifesto sets the tone for a high-stakes electoral battle in Kerala, where welfare expansion, job creation, and poverty eradication are expected to remain central issues in the run-up to voting.
