A recent Lok Poll opinion survey on the upcoming 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election projects a decisive victory for the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led alliance, indicating a strong return to power with a clear and commanding majority. According to the survey, the ruling alliance is expected to secure between 181 and 189 seats in the 234-member Assembly. With the majority mark set at 118 seats, the projected figures place the DMK alliance ahead by a margin of over 60 seats beyond the required threshold.

The survey numbers also highlight a significant improvement compared to the 2021 Assembly election, where the DMK alliance secured 159 seats to form the government. The current projection suggests a potential gain of 22 to 30 additional seats if the trend reflected in the survey materialises in the election.

In contrast, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led alliance is projected to secure between 38 and 42 seats, indicating a wide gap of more than 140 seats when compared to the upper range of the DMK alliance projection. The survey also indicates the emergence of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by actor-politician Vijay, with an estimated seat tally of 8 to 10 seats in the upcoming election.

Vote share projections in the survey further reinforce the DMK alliance’s lead. The DMK-led front is estimated to secure 40.1% of the total vote share. The AIADMK alliance is projected at around 29%, creating a gap of 11.1 percentage points between the two major alliances. The TVK is estimated to secure 23.9% vote share, while NTK is projected at 4.9%.

In the Chief Minister preference survey, M. K. Stalin leads with 41% support among respondents. Actor-politician Vijay ranks second with 27.1%, placing him ahead of Edappadi K. Palaniswami, who records 24.1%. The difference between Vijay and Palaniswami stands at 3 percentage points, marking a shift in preference order among respondents in the survey data.

The Lok Poll survey figures consistently indicate that the DMK alliance maintains a substantial numerical advantage in both seat projections and vote share, while also highlighting changes in leadership preference patterns, particularly with Vijay surpassing Edappadi K Palaniswami in the most preferred Chief Minister category.
