TVK Chief Vijay announced a series of welfare measures focused on women during an International Women’s Day event held in Mamallapuram. The announcements are part of the party’s proposed agenda ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.
Presenting the proposals, Vijay said the initiatives are aimed at strengthening women’s economic independence, safety, and social welfare.
Key announcements made by Vijay
1. ₹2,500 monthly financial assistance
The party proposed a direct financial support scheme under which women heads of families below the age of 60 would receive ₹2,500 every month.
2. Six free LPG cylinders every year
Under a scheme named “Annapoorani Super Six,” every household would receive six LPG cylinders free of cost each year.
3. Marriage assistance with gold and a silk saree
As part of marriage assistance for women, the party promised to provide 8 grams of gold along with a silk saree to eligible brides.
4. Gold ring for newborn girl children
The party proposed a welfare measure under which families would receive a gold ring when a girl child is born.
5. Free bus travel for women
Vijay announced that women would be allowed to travel free of cost on government-run buses across the state.
6. Separate department for women, children, and senior citizens
The party proposed creating a dedicated government department focusing on the welfare of women, children, and the elderly. The department would coordinate welfare programmes, policy implementation, and protection measures for vulnerable groups.
7. ‘Zero tolerance policy’ for crimes against women
Vijay said his party would implement strict measures to address crimes against women. The policy would involve stronger law enforcement action, faster investigations, and strict punishment for offenders to ensure women’s safety.
8. Expansion of surveillance and safety infrastructure
To improve safety in public spaces, the party proposed installing more CCTV cameras, improving street lighting, and strengthening surveillance in vulnerable areas.
9. Smart panic buttons in public transport
Smart panic buttons would be introduced in buses and other public transport systems to ensure quick assistance for women during emergencies.
10. Free sanitary pads for women
Vijay announced a plan to provide free sanitary pads to women as part of a public health initiative.
11. Financial assistance for girls’ education
The party proposed financial support for families to help girls continue their education without interruption.
12. Expanded welfare programmes for women
Vijay said the initiatives form part of a broader policy framework aimed at strengthening women’s empowerment.
Speaking at the event, Vijay said the schemes were designed to create a safer and more economically secure environment for women.
