Is this the end of CSK? Has CSK lost it’s glory days? Can CSK win atleast a match without MS Dhoni? IS CSK the Manchester United of IPL? Are CSK going to finish last this season also? Will Samson ever come to form? Too many questions and no answers. But all these questions were answered and even silenced in their match against Delhi Capitals at Chepauk.
Chennai Super Kings who were yet to open their account in IPL 2026 faced up a wounded Delhi Capitals who lost just by a run in their last match. DC won the toss and put CSK into bat. CSK made two significant changes in their team. Much awaited Brevis made his return in place of Matt Henry and Gurjapneet Singh made his debut for CSK.
Sanju and Ruturaj opened for CSK though there were multiple calls to make Ayush Mhate to open the innings. Ruturaj struggled to find his form but Sanju seemed to be in sublime touch. Sanju went all guns blazing in the poweplay and found the boundary ropes multiple times. Ruturaj who was struggling to middle the ball lost his wicket to Axar Patel. Rutu faced 18 balls and scored just 15 runs. The only silver lining was that CSK didn’t lose any wicket in Powerplay.
Ayush joined Sanju in the middle and showed his class. Though Delhi bowlers tried all tricks in the book, they weren’t able to break this partnership. Ayush who bought up his second 50 of the season was retired out. Though the heat of Chennai tested Sanju, he showed his class and bought up his first century for CSK. CSK finished up its innings with 212 runs. Sanju top scored with 115 runs from 56 balls. His innings included 15 boundaries and 4 sixes.
KL Rahul and Nissanka went all guns blazing in the Powerplay and DC ended the Powerplay with 66 runs. Khaleel took the prized wicket of KL for 18 runs while Kamboj took the wicket of Nishanka. Though the openers KL Rahul and Nissanka lost their wicket in the Powerplay, DC had laid the foundation in the chase against CSK. Then came Gurjapneet who picked up the wicket of DC captain Axar Patel in the very first ball of his IPL career. Thanks to Sarfaraz Khan who pulled up a blinder to give Gurjapneet his first IPL wicket.
Last match hero , ex CSKian Sameer Rizvi and dangerous Killer Miller’s wicket were taken by Overton. Ashutosh found his way back for 19 runs in Noor’s bowling. At the other end Stubbs kept the scoreboard ticking. Boundaries and Sixes flowed from his bat. Overton who bowled the 19th over took the very important wicket of Stubbs. Jamie Overton ended up his quota of 4 overs with 4 wickets.
At the end, Delhi Capitals ended up all out for189 from 20 overs. Overton scalped 4 wickets while Kamboj took 3 wickets and Khaleel, Gurjapneet, Noor ending up with each a wicket. Chennai Super Kings defeated Delhi Capitals by 23 runs to register their first victory. With this victory, CSK moved up to 9th position in the points table.
