In a strongly worded statement, Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder Dr. S. Ramadoss has made it clear that he remains firmly in charge of the party, despite internal differences that have recently come to light.
Speaking to reporters about the ongoing turmoil within the party, Dr. Ramadoss declared:
“As long as I breathe, I am the leader of PMK.”
His statement comes amid growing tensions between him and his son, Anbumani Ramadoss, who currently serves as the party president.
Internal Discord in PMK
The rift within the PMK has become increasingly public in recent weeks. At the core of the issue is the appointment of Dr. Ramadoss’ grandson, Mukund, as the state youth wing secretary, a move that has reportedly caused friction with Anbumani Ramadoss and his supporters.
While Anbumani and his camp view the appointment as unilateral, Dr. Ramadoss sees it as a necessary step to strengthen the party’s grassroots leadership. The public exchange of differing views has led to speculation about a deeper leadership struggle within one of Tamil Nadu’s most prominent caste-based parties.
Ramadoss Hints at Ongoing Talks
Despite acknowledging the internal conflict, Ramadoss also confirmed that efforts are being made to resolve the issue:
“Every problem has a solution. Discussions for compromise are ongoing. We haven’t yet arrived at a final resolution, but the process is in motion.”
His tone suggests that while he is willing to find common ground, he is also not ready to relinquish control over the party he built and led for decades.
Political Consequences
The public nature of this dispute comes at a time when PMK is seeking to reassert its relevance in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape. With Lok Sabha elections over and state assembly elections on the horizon, observers note that internal unity will be critical if the party hopes to maintain its voter base, especially among the Vanniyar community.
The PMK has, in recent years, aligned itself with the BJP-led NDA but has also been exploring its own independent identity, especially under Anbumani’s leadership.
What Lies Ahead?
While both father and son remain important pillars of the PMK, the outcome of their current disagreement could shape the future of the party’s leadership structure, strategy, and alliances.
For now, Dr. Ramadoss has drawn a clear line: he is not stepping aside — and intends to guide PMK as long as he is able.
Dr. Ramadoss’ firm declaration underlines his continued hold over PMK, even as generational shifts create friction within the party. Whether these differences are resolved internally or escalate further will determine the party’s stability and direction in the months ahead.
