During the audio launch of the film Thug Life, actor Kamal Haasan made a statement saying, “Kannada originated from Tamil, and Tamil is the mother of the Kannada language.”

This remark triggered massive controversy across Karnataka, with several Kannada organizations condemning the actor’s comment.

The issue quickly became a major political talking point in Karnataka. In response, the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) announced that it will not allow the release of Kamal Haasan’s films in the state.

Many from the film and literary community have condemned this move, calling it unfair treatment of a legendary actor who has always celebrated all languages and cinema as a universal art form.

Notably, Kamal Haasan has stated clearly that he will not apologize for his remarks, standing firm on his position.

This development reflects the growing tension between cultural pride and freedom of expression, raising larger questions about the role of language in regional identity and artistic discourse
