In recent days, information about a hike in electricity tariffs and possible further increases has been spreading rapidly.
In this context, Electricity Minister Sivashankaran has clarified that there is no intention to increase charges for domestic electricity connections, and such circulating information is false and mere rumors.
The Government of Tamil Nadu has also issued an official statement putting an end to these rumors.
It has also confirmed that the current provision of 100 units of free electricity will continue as it is.
This announcement has brought great relief to middle-class and economically weaker sections of the population. Even if, at any point, the Electricity Regulatory Commission issues any announcement regarding electricity tariffs, the Tamil Nadu government has stated that measures will be taken to ensure that domestic electricity consumers are not affected in any way.
