For AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi Palaniswami, this election is being seen as a battle of survival — a do-or-die contest.
After first announcing that there would be no alliance with the BJP, he later went on to form one. Despite saying he wouldn’t meet anyone, he met Union Home Minister Amit Shah the very next day.
During his Ezhuchi Payanam campaign, Palaniswami had refrained from criticizing actor Vijay and had maintained a calm tone. However, Vijay suddenly made a strong remark that “the party founded by revolutionary leader MGR is now in the hands of someone undeserving.”
Following this, opposition leader Edappadi Palaniswami and his party administrators began criticizing Vijay.
In this context came the tragic Karur incident, which claimed 41 lives. Instead of blaming actor Vijay, Palaniswami accused the ruling DMK and the police of being responsible for the tragedy.
Meanwhile, BJP also expressed support for actor Vijay, and Palaniswami decided to bring him into their alliance at any cost. However, to gauge the mindset of his party cadres, he has reportedly ordered a secret survey through his trusted officials.
Once the survey results arrive, further actions will be decided. The current political sentiment suggests that Edappadi Palaniswami believes if actor Vijay joins their alliance, AIADMK could easily return to power.
