Voting for the high-stakes Assembly elections in Assam, Kerala and Puducherry begins at 7 AM on Thursday, April 9, marking a crucial phase in the 2026 electoral cycle, with polling being conducted in a single phase across all three regions. The voting process will continue through the day under tight security and administrative arrangements put in place to ensure smooth and peaceful polling.
Polling is being held for 126 seats in Assam, 140 in Kerala, and 30 in Puducherry.
The Election Commission has completed all preparations ahead of polling, with officials stating that arrangements are in place to facilitate voters, including senior citizens and persons with disabilities. Authorities have deployed personnel and resources across thousands of polling stations, while a mandatory silence period came into force ahead of voting to ensure a fair electoral environment.
According to official electoral data, Assam has a total of 2,50,21,408 electors, while Kerala has 2,71,06,059 electors. In Puducherry, the electorate stands at 9,44,539. A significant number of young voters are also part of this election, with 5,75,258 electors aged 18–19 in Assam, 4,24,518 in Kerala, and 23,033 in Puducherry.
Assam is voting across 31,486 polling stations, Kerala across 30,471, and Puducherry across 1,099 stations.
These elections will determine the composition of the legislative assemblies in the three regions, with the counting of votes scheduled for May 4.
