The Election Commission of India (ECI) has released official voter turnout figures for Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, showing significantly high participation levels in the ongoing elections. Tamil Nadu recorded an overall turnout of approximately 85.01%, while West Bengal’s Phase-1 polling registered an estimated 92.22% turnout. The figures have been described as among the highest in recent electoral history.

In Tamil Nadu, district-wise data shows wide variation in voter participation across regions. Karur recorded the highest turnout in the state at 92.66%, followed closely by Salem at 90.58%, Dharmapuri at 90.12%, and Erode at 90.10%. Namakkal also registered a strong turnout at 89.89%, while Ranipet stood at 89.63% and Tiruvannamalai at 89.16%. Other high-performing districts included Viluppuram at 88.87%, Vellore at 88.72%, Tirupathur at 88.80%, Tiruppur at 88.57%, and Dindigul at 88.83%, reflecting strong voter engagement across multiple regions.

Mid-range turnout districts in Tamil Nadu included Kancheepuram at 87.36%, Ariyalur at 86.94%, Nagapattinam at 86.25%, Cuddalore at 85.36%, Krishnagiri at 85.22%, Chengalpattu at 85.10%, Perambalur at 85.50%, and Virudhunagar at 84.84%. Major urban and industrial centres such as Chennai recorded 83.63%, Coimbatore 84.71%, and Tiruchirappalli 85.44%, indicating steady participation in metropolitan and semi-urban constituencies.

Lower turnout districts in Tamil Nadu included Kanniyakumari at 75.61%, Sivaganga at 76.48%, Ramanathapuram at 76.93%, Tirunelveli at 77.88%, The Nilgiris at 78.90%, Thanjavur at 80.43%, Madurai at 80.53%, and Thoothukudi at 80.53%. These districts recorded comparatively lower participation compared to the state average.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar described the turnout in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu as the “highest-ever percentage of polling since Independence.” He added, “ECI salutes each voter of West Bengal and Tamil Nadu.”

In comparison, West Bengal reported a significantly higher turnout in Phase-1 polling, with figures around 92.22%. The Election Commission noted that the state recorded one of its strongest voter participations, with polling concluding in a largely peaceful manner.
