Sanju Samson added another milestone to his IPL career by becoming only the 10th player in the tournament’s history to cross 5,000 runs. The landmark came during the match between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on April 26.
Sanju Samson reached the mark with a boundary off Kagiso Rabada in the second over, bringing up his 5,000th run in his 185th match. He was dismissed soon after for 11 runs off 15 balls.
In 180 innings, Sanju Samson has scored 5,008 runs at an average of 31.82 and a strike rate of 140.87, including five centuries and 26 half-centuries.
Virat Kohli remains the leading run-scorer in the league with 8,989 runs from 266 innings at an average of 39.95 and a strike rate of 133.76, including eight centuries and 66 half-centuries. Rohit Sharma follows with 7,183 runs from 271 innings, while Shikhar Dhawan has accumulated 6,769 runs in 221 innings. David Warner has scored 6,565 runs at an average of 40.52, and KL Rahul has 5,579 runs with the highest average among the top players at 46.88.
Among other players above the 5,000-run mark, Suresh Raina has 5,528 runs, MS Dhoni has 5,439 runs, Ajinkya Rahane has 5,184 runs, and AB de Villiers has 5,162 runs.
Sanju Samson also became the third-fastest player to achieve this feat in terms of the fewest balls faced. He took 3,555 balls to reach the milestone. AB de Villiers holds the record for the fewest balls taken, reaching the mark in 3,288 deliveries, while David Warner follows in second place with 3,554 balls.
