Rukmini Vasanth, who had been confirmed as the female lead opposite Dhanush in the project directed by Tamilarasan Pachamuthu, is now reportedly facing date allocation difficulties and the production team is currently in discussions with Sara Arjun as a potential replacement.
Sara Arjun is a familiar face to Tamil cinema audiences for a very different reason than most: she is one of Tamil cinema’s most celebrated child stars, having won hearts in memorable roles in Deiva Thiirumagal (2011) and Saivam (2014). Having grown up in front of Tamil audiences, she made the transition to Hindi cinema as an adult and debuted at nineteen opposite Ranveer Singh in Dhurandhar: The Revenge which turned out to be one of the biggest Hindi blockbusters of 2026. That breakout success has opened numerous doors for her, and a Tamil film pairing with Dhanush would represent a significant homecoming.
D56, directed by Tamilarasan Pachamuthu, has been eagerly anticipated as Dhanush’s next post-Kubera project. Rukmini Vasanth the actress who featured memorably in Sapta Saagaradache Ello and has been building a strong independent film portfolio was the original choice and had been formally contracted for the project. The specific nature of the scheduling conflict has not been officially detailed, but it appears that aligning her dates with D56’s production calendar has proved difficult enough to prompt the producers to explore alternatives.
