In a swift political move ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has removed its Tamil Nadu spokesperson ANS Prasad from party posts following his remarks inviting actor-politician Vijay to join the NDA alliance.

The action was announced by Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagendran, who relieved Prasad of his responsibilities as party spokesperson and his role in the BJP’s state election working committee. The development comes days after Prasad publicly suggested that Vijay should consider joining the AIADMK-BJP alliance if he was serious about defeating the ruling DMK in the upcoming elections.

Prasad had made the remarks while responding to questions about the political plans of Vijay, who recently launched his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). The BJP leader said that if Vijay genuinely wanted to stop the DMK from returning to power, aligning with the AIADMK-BJP-led alliance would prevent the division of anti-DMK votes.

His statement quickly triggered political debate in Tamil Nadu, where Vijay’s entry into politics has already created significant buzz ahead of the 2026 Assembly polls. The actor enjoys a massive fan following across the State, and his party’s electoral debut is expected to influence political dynamics.

However, sources within Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam have repeatedly indicated that the party is not considering joining either the BJP-AIADMK alliance or any other major coalition at this stage. TVK leaders have maintained that the party will chart its own political path.

Within the BJP, Prasad’s remarks were seen as premature and not aligned with the party’s official position regarding alliances. Party leaders clarified that any discussion about potential alliances would be decided by the central leadership and announced through official channels.

Following the controversy, the state unit moved quickly to distance itself from the comments. Nainar Nagendran issued an order removing Prasad from his party roles, signalling that individual leaders should avoid making speculative statements about alliances.

The incident highlights the growing political intensity in Tamil Nadu as parties begin preparing for the Assembly elections. With the DMK currently in power, opposition parties are exploring strategies to consolidate votes and challenge the ruling alliance.

At the same time, the emergence of new political players such as Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam has added a fresh dimension to the State’s political landscape. Analysts believe the actor’s entry could influence voter sentiment, particularly among young voters and his large fan base.

For the BJP, which has been attempting to expand its political footprint in Tamil Nadu, alliance calculations remain crucial. The party is expected to continue working with AIADMK while assessing the evolving political scenario in the State.

The removal of ANS Prasad underlines the party’s effort to maintain message discipline during a politically sensitive period. As election preparations gather momentum, statements from leaders and potential alliance discussions are likely to remain closely watched in Tamil Nadu’s fast-changing political arena.
