The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially announced the first-phase schedule of the TATA IPL 2026, with the tournament set to begin on March 28, 2026. Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will face Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the opening match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
The schedule released so far covers the initial phase of the tournament, which will run from March 28 to April 12, while the remaining fixtures will be announced later. The phased release of the schedule is understood to be linked to logistical considerations surrounding upcoming Assembly elections in several states, which may affect venue availability and security arrangements.
The 2026 edition of the Indian Premier League, the 19th season of the tournament, will feature 10 franchises competing across multiple venues in India. The league is expected to run for over two months, with the final expected to be held on May 31, 2026.
Among the early fixtures announced, Mumbai Indians will begin their campaign on March 29 with a home match against Kolkata Knight Riders, while Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will start their season on March 30 against Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati.
The opening game will also mark a major return for the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium as a marquee IPL venue after extensive safety reviews and infrastructure upgrades carried out following last year’s crowd-related incident in Bengaluru.
With the defending champions hosting the curtain-raiser and several marquee clashes lined up in the first phase, IPL 2026 is set to begin with strong anticipation among fans across the country. The BCCI is expected to announce the remaining fixtures, including the second phase and playoff venues, in the coming weeks once election schedules are finalised.
