DC vs PBKS: Punjab Kings scripted history by recording the highest-ever successful run chase in Indian Premier League history on Saturday. Punjab Kings achieved this feat while chasing down 265 to defeat Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Delhi Capitals piled up a massive 264/2 in 20 overs. KL Rahul led the charge with an unbeaten 152 off 67 balls, striking 16 fours and 9 sixes. Nitish Rana provided explosive support with 91 off 44 balls, including 11 fours and 4 sixes.
Punjab Kings’ bowlers struggled to contain the flow of runs, with Arshdeep Singh returning figures of 1/49 and Xavier Bartlett taking 1/69. Marco Jansen (0/45), Vijaykumar Vyshak (0/48), Yuzvendra Chahal (0/42), and Marcus Stoinis (0/11) went wicketless.
In response, Punjab Kings scripted history with a sensational chase, reaching 265/4 in just 18.5 overs. The innings was powered by a fearless top-order assault led by Prabhsimran Singh, who smashed 76 off 26 balls with 9 fours and 5 sixes, and Priyansh Arya, who scored 43 off 17 balls. Captain Shreyas Iyer anchored the chase with an unbeaten 71 off 36 balls, hitting 3 fours and 7 sixes, ensuring control through the middle overs.
For Delhi Capitals, Kuldeep Yadav was the most successful bowler with 2/46, while Axar Patel and Vipraj Nigam picked up one wicket each.
Reflecting on the record-breaking run chase, Shreyas Iyer said, “I just said to myself that if they can, we can too. (On the dressing room chat before the chase) We discussed that in the previous games, we chased around 220–225 with two overs left. So the mindset was very much similar.”
Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan hailed Iyer’s chasing ability after the match. Posting on X, Irfan Pathan wrote, “After Virat Kohli, if anyone deserves the ‘chase master’ tag, it’s Shreyas Iyer. Calm, composed, and clutch under pressure every single time.”
After this record victory, Punjab Kings continue to sit at the top of the points table with 13 points and remain unbeaten in IPL 2026.
