Sanju Samson’s 89-run knock became the highest individual score ever recorded in a T20 World Cup final. The Indian opener surpassed the previous record held by Marlon Samuels, who scored 85 against England in the 2016 final, as well as Kane Williamson’s 85 in the 2021 final.

Sanju Samson also set a major tournament record for six-hitting during the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. With 24 sixes in the tournament, the Indian wicketkeeper-batter now holds the record for the most sixes hit by a player in a single edition of the T20 World Cup. Samson surpassed the previous record of 20 sixes set by New Zealand opener Finn Allen.
