Actor-turned-politician Vijay has submitted a revised election affidavit after discrepancies were identified in the documents he filed for the upcoming 2026 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election. The move comes during the scrutiny phase of nominations, where candidates are required to ensure that all declarations are accurate and consistent.

Vijay, the founder and president of Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), is contesting from both Perambur in Chennai and Tiruchirappalli East. His initial affidavits, filed for the two constituencies, came under scrutiny after differences were found in key disclosures, including details related to pending cases and financial declarations. Reports indicated that while one affidavit mentioned no pending cases, another referred to two FIRs, raising questions over conflicting information submitted in official documents.

A major issue that drew attention was the confusion over Vijay’s age. In one set of nomination papers, his age was mentioned as 52, while another document listed it as 51. This inconsistency became a key point during scrutiny, as personal details such as age must remain uniform across all election filings. In response, Vijay clarified the discrepancy and submitted a fresh affidavit correcting his age, ensuring consistency in all records.

Additional discrepancies were also noted in election-related bank account details and other statutory disclosures. Following these observations, Vijay submitted a supplementary affidavit addressing all identified errors. The revised filing includes corrected information on age, pending cases, and other mandatory declarations, aligning the details across both constituencies.

Vijay had earlier declared total assets worth over ₹640 crore in his affidavit, placing him among the wealthiest candidates in the fray.

Under election procedures, candidates are permitted to submit revised affidavits within the nomination window to rectify errors before scrutiny concludes. Vijay’s latest filing is part of that process, ensuring that his candidature remains valid as the election moves toward the next stages, including scrutiny and finalisation of candidates.
