Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin inaugurated a series of civic infrastructure projects worth ₹44.88 crore in his Kolathur Assembly constituency in North Chennai, reinforcing the government’s focus on improving urban amenities and public facilities in the area. The projects were implemented under various agencies including the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA), the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) and the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB).
The largest share of the investment ₹28.25 crore was spent on projects executed by CMDA. These include the upgraded Murasoli Maran Park, the Kalaignar Centenary Coin Memorial, a modern library and training centre called “Mudhalvar Padaipagam” at Jawahar Nagar, and the Kolathur Modern Market complex on Paper Mills Road, designed to improve public recreation, educational facilities and commercial infrastructure in the locality.
The Greater Chennai Corporation completed additional civic facilities worth ₹4.15 crore, including the construction of a new school building, a women’s gym, and a multi-purpose building housing ration shops and community services. These projects aim to strengthen basic neighbourhood infrastructure and welfare services for residents.
Another major component of the initiative involved sewage infrastructure upgrades worth ₹12.48 crore, undertaken by the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board. The works include improvements to pumping stations and modern monitoring systems intended to enhance wastewater management and sanitation in the constituency.
Alongside the infrastructure inauguration, the Chief Minister also distributed welfare assistance to several beneficiaries, including aid for Muslim families ahead of Ramzan, laptops and certificates for Tally graduates, sewing machines for trained women and other support items for local residents. The programmes were designed to complement the infrastructure push with direct community welfare measures.
Officials said the projects are part of broader development initiatives aimed at upgrading urban infrastructure across North Chennai while improving the quality of life for residents in densely populated neighbourhoods such as Kolathur.
The inauguration marks another phase of public works undertaken in the constituency, which has seen multiple civic upgrades in recent years focusing on parks, education facilities, markets and sanitation infrastructure.
