Hidden Camera Scandal at Infosys Bengaluru: Employee Caught Filming in Women’s Washroom

An alarming incident unfolded on June 30, 2025, at Infosys’s Electronic City campus in Bengaluru, where a male employee was arrested for filming a female colleague inside the women’s washroom.

The Incident

At around 11 AM, a 35-year-old technical test lead entered the restroom on the third floor of Building 38. She spotted an unusual reflection and sensed movement from an adjacent cubicle. Investigating further, she was shocked to find 30-year-old Senior Associate Swapnil Nagesh Mali, standing on the commode with his mobile phone in hand, recording her through a gap in the partition

 Immediate Response

The woman immediately raised an alarm. Mali attempted to flee, but HR personnel and colleagues intervened and apprehended him. His phone was examined, revealing:

  • A video of the complainant
  • Over 30 similar recordings of other female colleagues
  • Additional deleted clips, now under forensic review.

Police allege this may not have been an isolated incident and sent Mali’s phone to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to retrieve deleted content

 Legal Proceedings

Mali, originally from Maharashtra, was booked under:

  • Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Section 77 (voyeurism)
  • IT Act Section 66E (privacy violation)
He remains in police custody as the investigation continues

Company Reaction

Infosys stated they have a zero-tolerance policy and confirmed Mali was terminated. The company supported the victim, facilitated swift FIR filing, and pledged full cooperation with authorities

However, internal sources revealed that HR initially tried to resolve the matter privately with an apology, only later escalating the case to legal proceedings after the victim’s husband intervened.

 Broader Implications

This violation of trust and workplace safety has reignited discussions on privacy controls and employee screening within corporate campuses. It highlights the importance of:

  • Strict surveillance and safety protocols in sensitive areas.
  • Clear and timely escalation channels for harassment complaints.
  • The company’s need to reaffirm its zero-tolerance stance through transparent action and support systems

The Bengaluru Infosys incident is a stark reminder that even leading tech workplaces must stay vigilant to protect employee privacy and maintain a secure environment. Infosys’s decisive action and cooperation with law enforcement will set the precedent for preventing such violations in the future.
