The Indian cricket team, currently touring England, played its first Test match yesterday.
Shubman Gill, leading the team as the new Test captain, scored a brilliant century in his very first match as skipper.
With this, Gill has become only the fifth Indian captain to score a century in his debut Test as captain. The other Indian captains who have achieved this rare milestone are:
- 164 — Vijay Hazare vs England, Delhi, 1951*
- 116 — Sunil Gavaskar vs New Zealand, Auckland, 1976
- 102 — Dilip Vengsarkar vs West Indies, Arun Jaitley Stadium (Delhi), 1987
- 115 — Virat Kohli vs Australia, Adelaide, 2014
Shubman Gill now joins this elite list, marking a memorable start to his captaincy era!
