Historic Visit to Kerala’s Iconic Pilgrimage Site
In a significant and spiritual moment, the Honorable President of India, Droupadi Murmu, visited the sacred Sabarimala Ayyappa Temple in Kerala today. Her visit marks the first-ever visit by a sitting President to the revered hill shrine, which attracts millions of devotees annually.
The President’s visit underscored the spiritual and cultural unity of India, as she paid homage to Lord Ayyappa — the deity symbolizing devotion, discipline, and equality.
Warm Reception by the Travancore Devaswom Board
Upon arrival at Sabarimala, President Murmu was greeted with traditional temple honors by the Travancore Devaswom Board officials. She was presented with a ponnada (gold-embroidered shawl), floral garlands, and sacred offerings in accordance with temple traditions.
Security arrangements were tightened across the temple premises, and the President was accompanied by Kerala state officials and senior temple priests during her visit.
Special Prayers and Traditional Rituals
President Droupadi Murmu climbed the holy 18 steps (Pathinettam Padi) to reach the sanctum sanctorum of the Ayyappa temple. She offered special prayers and participated in a short ritual conducted by temple priests, seeking blessings for the peace, unity, and prosperity of the nation.
After the darshan, she expressed immense satisfaction and spiritual peace, appreciating the temple’s management for preserving its ancient customs and maintaining the sanctity of the pilgrimage site.
