Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin presented a cash award of ₹25 lakh to Petra Edwina Jason, who recently won a silver medal at the Asian Youth Championship held in Bahrain.

Edwina, a young athlete from Tamil Nadu, made the state and the nation proud by securing the silver medal in the 400-meter race, completing it in just 55.43 seconds. Her remarkable performance has placed her among the most promising talents in Indian athletics.

In recognition of her achievement, the Tamil Nadu government honored her with a ₹25 lakh prize as part of its ongoing initiative to encourage and support young sports achievers. During the felicitation ceremony, Udhayanidhi Stalin personally congratulated Edwina and commended her commitment, discipline, and hard work.

He stated that Edwina’s victory symbolizes the bright future of Tamil Nadu’s sporting community and reaffirmed the government’s continuous efforts to promote athletic excellence among youth. “Every young sportsperson who brings glory to our state will be supported and celebrated,” he said.

Edwina, visibly elated, expressed her gratitude to the Deputy Chief Minister and the Tamil Nadu government for recognizing her effort. She mentioned that such encouragement motivates athletes like her to strive for greater success at the Asian Games and Olympic-level competitions in the future.

Officials from the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority were also present at the event, emphasizing that the government remains committed to building world-class infrastructure and training programs for aspiring athletes.

With this recognition, Edwina Jason has not only received financial support but also the encouragement needed to continue her journey toward global sporting excellence.
