Bihar Elections: First Phase Sees 64.66% Voter Turnout

Bihar election 1st phase

The first phase of the Bihar Legislative Assembly Election 2025 concluded successfully yesterday, marking a crucial start to the state’s multi-phase polling process. According to data released by the Election Commission of India (ECI), voter turnout stood at an impressive 64.66% across the 121 constituencies that went to polls in this phase.

Officials reported that polling was largely peaceful, with only minor technical glitches in a few booths. Security arrangements were strengthened across sensitive areas to ensure smooth voting, and the ECI confirmed that the process proceeded without any major incidents of violence or disruption.

High Enthusiasm Among Voters

From early morning, long queues were seen at polling stations across rural and urban regions. Women, first-time voters, and senior citizens turned up in large numbers, showcasing strong civic participation. Political observers believe the turnout reflects the people’s growing confidence in democratic processes and their desire for development and governance reforms.

Political Landscape and Key Constituencies

This phase of polling covered several politically significant districts, including Patna, Gaya, Aurangabad, Nawada, and Nalanda. Many high-profile contests took place, with candidates from leading parties such as the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Janata Dal (United), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Congress vying for dominance.

Analysts note that this phase will play a decisive role in setting the tone for the remaining rounds of polling. The voter response in these regions is often seen as a bellwether for overall state-wide trends.

Smooth Conduct and Strict Security

Over 70,000 security personnel were deployed across the state to maintain law and order during the polling. Special attention was given to Naxal-affected areas, where additional forces were stationed. The ECI also introduced live web monitoring in select booths to ensure transparency.

Polling officials and volunteers ensured smooth operations, while arrangements such as ramps, drinking water, and medical aid were made available to facilitate voters’ comfort.

Next Phases Ahead

The Election Commission has announced that the subsequent phases of polling will take place over the coming weeks, concluding in early December. Counting of votes is expected to be held shortly after the final phase, with results likely to shape the political future of Bihar.

Political parties have now intensified their campaigns for the remaining phases, focusing on key issues such as employment, infrastructure, education, and law and order.
