Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Ayush Mhatre has been ruled out of the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season after sustaining a hamstring injury, bringing an abrupt halt to a promising campaign for the young cricketer. The injury occurred during a match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 18, where the right-handed batter experienced discomfort in his left hamstring, eventually forcing him out of the tournament.

Mhatre’s absence comes at a crucial phase of the tournament and is seen as a significant setback for Chennai Super Kings, with the team already managing multiple fitness concerns within the squad. He had emerged as one of the bright young performers in the side, and his absence is expected to impact the team’s balance and batting depth as the tournament progresses.

After being ruled out, Mhatre issued a public statement addressing his injury and recovery. He said, “Disappointed to not be able to contribute to CSK anymore in IPL 2026, but promise to come back stronger.” He further added, “Wishing the team all the best for the rest of the season. Thanks for all the yellove and support.”

The right-handed batter had shown promise in the opportunities he received this season, scoring 201 runs in six matches at an average of 33.50 and an impressive strike rate of 177.87.

With Mhatre unavailable for the remainder of the tournament, CSK are now expected to explore replacement options to fill the void in their batting unit. Among the players being considered as potential replacements are Deepak Hooda, Swastik Chikara and Atharva Taide. These players bring varied domestic and franchise experience, and their inclusion could provide CSK with alternative combinations as they aim to maintain competitiveness in the latter stages of the tournament.
