Chiyaan Vikram turned 60 on April 17, and his fans received the gift they had been waiting for. The National Award-winning actor officially announced his next film tentatively titled Chiyaan 63 on the occasion of his birthday, with the release of a 78-second teaser titled First Flame. The announcement confirmed a much-anticipated reunion: Vikram returns to work with director Anand Shankar, a decade after their 2016 collaboration Iru Mugan.

The teaser sets a tone entirely distinct from anything in either man’s previous work together. Iru Mugan was a slick, high-tech, double-role espionage thriller. Chiyaan 63 appears to go in the opposite direction rustic, grounded, and deliberately stripped of glamour. Vikram is introduced in a warehouse setting, seated inside a storeroom, lighting a beedi. He sports medium-length hair and a stubble, a markedly unglamorous look for a star of his scale. Goons are searching for him. Grenades are thrown. The tagline lands: “Just a cook.” And then the kicker, as the screen cuts to black: “Cooking starts now.”

The premise, as the teaser establishes, is a classic genre setup the dangerous man hiding behind an innocuous identity. The cook has a past. Those who underestimate him will regret it. It is a mode Vikram has explored to magnificent effect before, most recently in Veera Dheera Sooran: Part 2, where he played a provision store owner with a murderous history who is dragged back into violence. Chiyaan 63 appears to occupy similar emotional terrain quiet menace beneath an everyday surface.

The production is anchored by strong technical appointments. Sathya Jyothi Films, the banner behind the project, brings considerable commercial credibility. Santhosh Narayanan, one of Tamil cinema’s most distinctive composers, handles the music a pairing that immediately elevates anticipation for the film’s sonic identity. Cinematography is by R.D. Rajasekhar and production design by Rajeevan.

The film now carries the working title Chiyaan 63 after the project previously known by that title a separate production associated with director Bodi Rajkumar appears to have been shelved or renamed. As of the birthday announcement, Vikram remains the only officially confirmed cast member. The film is expected to go on the floors in May 2026. Cast announcements are anticipated in the coming months.

The birthday choice of announcement is, by itself, a statement. Vikram has consistently used milestone moments to signal his intent and turning 60 while launching a gritty, unglamorous action film rather than a prestige biopic or a safe commercial property says a great deal about where this actor’s artistic curiosity continues to reside.
