The much-anticipated Malayalam film Drishyam 3, starring Mohanlal in the central role of Georgekutty, is officially set to release in theatres around the world on April 2, 2026. The announcement was made by Mohanlal himself on social media, accompanied by a new poster for the film.
Director and writer Jeethu Joseph, who helms the Malayalam Drishyam trilogy, has explained the narrative direction of the third film. According to Jeethu Joseph, Drishyam 3 explores “what happens in Georgekutty’s life after four-and-a-half years,” suggesting the story continues the psychological and emotional journey first presented in the previous instalments.
Producer Antony Perumbavoor, under the Aashirvad Cinemas banner, said the decision to make a third film came after extensive discussions and was influenced by the strong response to the earlier films. “The phenomenal response to the first two parts convinced us that Georgekutty’s journey had more to tell,” Perumbavoor stated.
Drishyam 3 follows two highly successful films released in 2013 and 2021, both of which have been praised for their blend of family drama and crime suspense. The franchise has also been remade in multiple Indian languages, including Hindi.
Drishyam 3 brings back much of the ensemble from the earlier films, with Mohanlal, Meena, Ansiba Hassan, Esther Anil, Asha Sharath, Murali Gopy, Siddique, K. B. Ganesh Kumar, Santhi Mayadevi, Manju Pillai and Kozhikode Narayanan Nair all reprising their respective characters. Producer Antony Perumbavoor also returns in an on-screen role in the film.
The film is written and directed by Jeethu Joseph, produced by Antony Perumbavoor under Aashirvad Cinemas, with music composed by Anil Johnson, cinematography by Satheesh Kurup, editing by V. S. Vinayak.
