Actor-politician Vijay’s upcoming film Jana Nayagan has once again drawn attention, with fresh indications pointing to a possible theatrical release on April 24. However, the makers have not issued an official confirmation regarding the release date.
The film was initially scheduled to hit screens during the Pongal season in January 2026 but was postponed. The revised timeline is being considered following delays related to the film’s certification process.
The delay is tied to proceedings involving the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The film was submitted for certification in December 2025, and an examining committee had cleared it at the initial stage. A complaint raised by a board member regarding certain scenes subsequently led to the film being referred to a revising committee for further evaluation, in line with established procedure.
Following this development, the producers, KVN Productions, approached the Madras High Court seeking directions for the issuance of the censor certificate. A single judge initially ruled in favour of the makers; however, the order was later set aside by a division bench, allowing the CBFC to continue with its due process through the revising committee.
The producers later withdrew their petition from the court and opted to proceed with the certification through the CBFC’s revising panel. This move brought an end to the legal proceedings and enabled the film to move forward in the certification process.
Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan is positioned as Vijay’s final film before his full-time political entry. The film features actors Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, and Prakash Raj in key roles. Produced by KVN Productions, the project is described as a political action thriller.
