Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on AIADMK after Leader of the Opposition Edappadi K. Palaniswami claimed that pressure exerted by his party had led to the State government crediting ₹5,000 to 1.31 crore women heads of families as an entitlement amount.
In a detailed social media post, Stalin rejected the claim and asserted that the decision to credit the amount was taken to prevent a possible attempt to stall the scheme by citing election-related reasons.
“Your pressure is not the reason. The conspiracy that your Delhi owners would block the entitlement citing elections is the reason,” Stalin said, directly addressing Palaniswami. He added that he had “clearly explained this and credited the amount in advance to my sisters’ accounts.”
The Chief Minister’s remarks come in the context of the State government’s flagship welfare initiative for women, the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai scheme, under which eligible women heads of families receive ₹1,000 per month. The scheme, launched in 2023, covers 1.31 crore beneficiaries across Tamil Nadu and is a key component of the ruling party’s governance model.
Stalin said the AIADMK’s attempt to claim credit reflected the political impact of the move. “From the very fact that you are claiming ownership, I understand that the silent surgical strike carried out by the Dravidian Model has disturbed your sleep and delivered a big hit,” he wrote.
Accusing the AIADMK of a pattern of imitation, Stalin said, “Copy, paste politics has been the practice of the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu for a long time. Everyone knows this. So say something new.”
He further stated that the ruling party’s women’s wing had launched a statewide outreach campaign to highlight government schemes for women, including “Vidiyal Payanam,” “Pudhumai Penn,” and the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai. According to Stalin, party cadres would take these initiatives “door to door” across the State.
“Our DMK Women Power Engine will not be matched by your ‘dabba engine’,” he added.
