Chennai — With the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections approaching, the Election Commission on February 23, 2026, published the final electoral roll following the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). According to the officially released figures, the State now has a total of 5,67,07,380 electors.
As per data released by the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, 6,41,14,587 electors were on the rolls as of October 27, 2025, prior to the commencement of the revision exercise. After house-to-house verification and scrutiny, the draft roll published on December 19, 2025, reflected 5,43,76,756 electors. In total, approximately 97.37 lakh names were removed from the earlier roll during the entire revision exercise, primarily on grounds such as death, migration, duplication and other eligibility-related reasons.
During the subsequent claims and objections period, which concluded on January 30, 2026, election authorities processed fresh applications and corrections. Officials stated that 27.53 lakh eligible electors were added during this phase, while 4.23 lakh names were deleted based on verified ineligibility.
Following the completion of additions, deletions and corrections, the final electoral roll was published with 5,67,07,380 registered voters across Tamil Nadu.
The gender-wise break-up of the electorate includes 2,77,38,925 male electors, 2,89,60,838 female electors, and 7,617 third gender electors. The figures indicate that women constitute a marginal majority of the electorate in the State.
Age-wise data released along with the roll shows that the number of electors in the 18–19 years age group stands at 12.51 lakh, while senior citizens aged 85 years and above number 3.99 lakh.
Election officials stated that the Special Intensive Revision involved door-to-door verification by booth-level officers, cross-checking with government databases and providing citizens an opportunity to file claims and objections before finalisation.
The Chief Electoral Officer’s office has advised voters to verify their names in the final electoral roll through the official website (elections.tn.gov.in) and contact their respective Electoral Registration Officers in case of discrepancies.
Notably, The publication of the final roll marks a key preparatory step ahead of the announcement of the election schedule for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly polls.
