Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has strongly condemned the Central Government’s decision to postpone the population census to 2027, calling it a deliberate conspiracy against Tamil Nadu.
He stated that delaying the census affects crucial data-based policy making, including welfare schemes, fund allocation, and representation, and disproportionately harms southern states like Tamil Nadu, which have effectively controlled population growth.
Stalin emphasized that this delay is not just administrative negligence but a calculated political move that undermines the federal spirit and constitutional fairness.
Stalin Accuses BJP of Conspiracy to Reduce Tamil Nadu’s Representation by Delaying Census
In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin stated:
According to the Constitution, the first population census conducted after 2026 must be followed by a delimitation of constituencies.
By postponing the census to 2027, the BJP has openly revealed its conspiracy to reduce Tamil Nadu’s representation in Parliament.
He accused the Central Government of deliberately delaying the census to manipulate the future political landscape, particularly targeting states like Tamil Nadu that have effectively controlled population growth. Stalin reiterated that this move is a direct attack on federal principles and democratic representation.
