In a moment that has set social media abuzz, actress Trisha Krishnan chose dignified silence on Friday, March 13, when she was intercepted by reporters at the Chennai airport who pressed her for a response on the growing speculation surrounding her relationship with actor-politician Thalapathy Vijay.
Dressed in a white T-shirt, black pants, and a denim jacket, and shielded behind dark sunglasses, Trisha walked calmly toward the airport terminal while a cluster of reporters and paparazzi surrounded her, hurling questions about her recent public appearance with Vijay and the controversy that has followed. A video captured which has since gone viral across social media platforms, shows the actress maintaining her composure throughout not breaking stride, not uttering a word before disappearing into the terminal alongside her staff.
The airport moment is the latest chapter in a story that has dominated Tamil entertainment circles for weeks. The flashpoint was March 5, when Vijay and Trisha arrived together at the wedding reception of producer Kalpathi S. Suresh’s son in Chennai. The pair turned heads by arriving in coordinated cream and gold outfits, posing together with the newlyweds and their family on stage, and later leaving the venue in the same vehicle. For fans of their on-screen chemistry forged across blockbusters like Ghilli, Thirupaachi, and more recently Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Leo the appearance was delightful fodder. For others, its timing was impossible to ignore.
Just days before the wedding reception, reports had surfaced that Vijay’s wife, Sangeetha Sornalingam, had filed a divorce petition before a family court in Chengalpattu in December 2025 a filing that became public on February 27. In her petition, Sangeetha sought the dissolution of their 27-year marriage under the Special Marriage Act, alleged persistent emotional cruelty and desertion, claimed Vijay had been emotionally withdrawn since 2021, and accused him of an extramarital relationship with an unnamed actress. She has also filed a separate application seeking residential rights over the couple’s Neelankarai home and interim maintenance for herself and their children, Jason Sanjay and Divya Sasha. The court has directed Vijay to appear in person for the next hearing, scheduled for April 20.
The speculation surrounding Trisha’s identity as the unnamed actress further intensified following a remark made by director-actor R. Parthiban at a recent awards function. Referring to Trisha’s iconic character Kundavai from the period drama Ponniyin Selvan, he suggested that “this Kundavai should be kept inside the house for some time” to avoid controversy a comment widely interpreted as directing blame at the actress. The remark triggered significant backlash online, with many condemning it as regressive. Trisha responded publicly, though without naming Parthiban, describing such comments as “crude words” that only made “stupidity louder.” Parthiban subsequently released a video attempting to walk back his statement and express regret.
Vijay himself has not directly addressed the rumours linking him to Trisha. However, speaking at a rally of his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), he acknowledged the swirling controversy, telling supporters: “There are some issues running around in the recent past, isn’t it? I see all of you busy fighting those allegations and getting hurt in the process. In fact, I get hurt when I see you get hurt. I will take care of all that. Let’s get involved in people’s problems. Don’t get hurt about that problem it’s not worth bothering about. Be confident. Only good things will happen.”
As of Friday evening, neither Vijay nor Trisha has issued any official statement about their relationship or the ongoing divorce proceedings. On the professional front, Trisha is set to appear alongside Suriya in the upcoming RJ Balaji directorial Karuppu, expected to release in Summer 2026, and also has Vishwambhara with Chiranjeevi in the pipeline. Vijay’s Jana Nayagan, meanwhile, remains in a holding pattern awaiting CBFC certification.
