Actor-producer Sasikumar delivered a heartfelt speech at the press meet of his upcoming Tamil film ‘My Lord’. The event, held in Chennai ahead of the film’s release, turned into a strong public endorsement of director Raju Murugan and his distinctive storytelling approach.

Addressing the gathering, Sasikumar stated that filmmakers like Raju Murugan are rare in contemporary cinema. “A director who writes with honesty and social responsibility should never fail,” he said, adding that Raju Murugan’s greatest strength lies in his clarity of thought and his courage to address uncomfortable truths through cinema.

Sasikumar explained that his decision to act in My Lord was driven entirely by the script. “When Raju narrated the story, I didn’t ask how big the film was or how commercial it would be. I only saw the truth in what he was trying to say,” he remarked. According to the actor, My Lord challenges conventional cinematic narratives while remaining deeply rooted in the lives of ordinary people, making it both relevant and impactful.

Speaking further, Sasikumar revealed that the film faced a major hurdle during production when the shoot was briefly stalled due to a casting issue. “At one point, the shooting almost came to a halt because an actor misunderstood the role and chose not to come on board,” he said. “That’s when I suggested bringing in Guru Somasundaram.”

Recalling Guru Somasundaram’s commitment, Sasikumar added that the actor’s approach stood out. “Raju told me that Guru usually reads a script and lives with it for at least ten days before giving an answer. But for My Lord, he didn’t even ask for a narration. He came straight to the shooting spot and understood everything there,” Sasikumar said.

Guru Somasundaram had previously collaborated with Raju Murugan in the critically acclaimed 2016 political satire Joker. In that film, Guru delivered a standout performance in a key role, contributing to the film’s critical success. Joker was lauded for its sharp social commentary and dark humour, and it went on to win the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil.

Emphasising the responsibility of actors in socially rooted cinema, Sasikumar noted, “When a director like Raju Murugan believes in a story, it becomes our duty as actors to stand by it. If films like this don’t succeed, we lose something important as an industry.”

The press meet was attended by several notable filmmakers, including Bala, Mari Selvaraj, TJ Gnanavel, Prem Kumar, Vijay Milton, and Ravikumar.

My Lord is positioned as a legal drama infused with political and social commentary. The film explores themes of justice, power structures, and the struggles of marginalised voices. Scheduled for a theatrical release on February 13, My Lord has generated considerable buzz following the release of its trailer, which was widely praised for its sharp writing and grounded performances.
